Description

Portable Fire Extinguishers DCP often referred to as an Extinguisher, is the most common, versatile, and widely recognized type of fire extinguisher available. It is filled with a fine, non-toxic chemical powder (typically Monoammonium Phosphate) that is expelled under pressure as a cloud.

Features:

  • Extinguishing Agent: Dry Chemical Powder (DCP). The most common agent is Monoammonium Phosphate, which gives it its  rating.
  • Class A: Fires involving ordinary combustibles such as wood, paper, fabric, and plastics. The powder smothers and melts to create a barrier.
  • Class B: Fires involving flammable liquids like petrol, oils, paint, and solvents. It interrupts the chemical reaction and smothers the flames.
  • Class C: Fires involving energized electrical equipment such as appliances, wiring, and motors. The powder is non-conductive.
  • Rapid Knockdown: The chemical action of the powder quickly interferes with the combustion process, leading to a very rapid knockdown of flames, especially on liquid and gas fires.
  • Sizes: Available in a wide range of portable sizes, typically from 1 kg (for vehicles) to 2 kg, 4 kg, 6 kg, and 9 kg (for larger commercial/industrial applications).
  • Operating Mechanism: Almost always a stored pressure unit. Operation is straightforward: pull the safety pin, aim the nozzle at the base of the fire, and squeeze the operating lever.
