Description
SCBA Air Cylinder (Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus Air Cylinder), also commonly known as a breathing air bottle or oxygen cylinder for SCBA, is a fundamental and life-saving component for firefighters and emergency personnel across Pakistan. Designed to store highly compressed breathable air, it provides the vital oxygen supply necessary for operating safely in environments contaminated with smoke, toxic gases, or lacking oxygen, ensuring the wearer can perform duties without inhaling hazardous substances.
Features:
High-Pressure Air Storage: Engineered to safely contain a large volume of highly compressed, breathable air (not oxygen, but filtered air) at extremely high pressures (e.g., 2216 PSI / 150 Bar or 4500 PSI / 300 Bar).
Steel Cylinders: Heavier but very robust and economical.
Aluminum Cylinders: Lighter than steel.
Carbon Fiber Wrapped Cylinders: The lightest option, offering extended duration at higher pressures. (The one pictured appears to be a composite or aluminum due to its smooth, dark finish).
Duration of Air Supply: Provides a crucial, time-limited supply of air (e.g., 30 minutes, 45 minutes, 60 minutes) depending on the cylinder’s volume and pressure rating, allowing firefighters to work safely in hazardous atmospheres.
Standard Valve Connection: Features a robust cylinder valve (visible at the top) designed for secure and leak-proof connection to an SCBA’s pressure reducer and regulator assembly.
Safety Features: Includes essential safety mechanisms such as a burst disc (to safely release pressure if overfilled or overheated) and robust construction tested to withstand extreme conditions
Hydrostatic Testing Requirement: Requires periodic hydrostatic testing (usually every 3 or 5 years) to ensure its structural integrity and safety for continued use.
