Description
Portable Eyewash refers to any self-contained, mobile device or station designed to provide immediate and accessible flushing for the eyes in emergency situations where a permanent plumbed water source is unavailable, impractical, or temporary. These devices are crucial for delivering essential first aid within the critical 10 seconds following exposure to hazardous chemicals, irritants, or foreign bodies, significantly mitigating the severity of eye injuries.
Features:
- Gravity-Fed: Most common for larger portable stations. Water flows by gravity when activated, providing a continuous stream (e.g., pulling an arm down)
- Personal Bottles/Squeeze Bottles (0.5 – 1 Liter): Small, handheld, single-use bottles for immediate, very short-term rinsing to bridge the gap until a larger unit is reached. Not typically ANSI compliant for duration
- Larger Portable Stations (15 L, 30 L, 60 L+): More substantial units designed to provide a continuous, sustained flow for the ANSI-mandated minimum of 15 minutes.
- Flushing Medium: Contains potable (drinkable) water or an approved sterile eyewash solution, sometimes with a preservative to maintain sterility over time.
- Dual Eyewash Nozzles (for larger units): Larger stations typically feature two ergonomically designed nozzles to simultaneously flush both eyes, ensuring comprehensive coverage. These often include dust covers.
- Easy Activation: Designed for quick, intuitive, and hands-free (for larger units) or single-hand (for bottles) activation, allowing an injured person to operate it effortlessly even with impaired vision
